Our Charity
Chip In For A
Cure's mission is to raise money to support local (Northern Connecticut)
initiatives addressing Breast Health issues. When the charity was
founded in 1995, proceeds from fundraising went to National Breast Cancer
Coalition. Starting in 2001, funds have been retained to benefit the local
Greater Hartford community. In the past years, over $300,000 has been raised;
the proceeds were divided equally between Saint Francis Hospital and Medical
Center, Hartford Hospital and last year University of Connecticut Health Center
Breast Cancer programs.

Teen Health CampaignStarting in 2002, recognizing the effects of healthy behaviors in
reducing the risks or preventing future health problems, Chip In For A
Cure started an educational campaign to indoctrinate teenaged girls to the healthy
lifestyle choices they should be making today. The two hospitals are actively
involved in this program. Liz Janangelo, ranked the #1 Junior Girl Golfer in the world,
was our Teen Health spokesperson the past two years. Last year,
the mantle was passed to Marika Lendl who as a 14 year old, had already won several
Junior amateur national championships. Either Marika, or her sister Isabel,
will most likely play in this year’s event.
Bricks Along The Journey
In 2004, a second fund raising initiative was started. From Spring,
2004 until October, local artists were recruited to take bricks salvaged from
torn-down buildings and transform them into stunning pieces of art. This transformation
is the perfect metaphor for the experience shared by all breast cancer survivors. The proceeds
from the sale of bricks will be shared by our three local hospitals. The first brick auction was
held in October 2004. Over $3500 was raised in various events throughout the month, depleting the
inventory of brick art. A calendar for 2005 was also created, with pictures of 12 of the bricks.
Over half of the 200 calendars produced were sold by the end of 2004. A second set of
bricks are being accumulated for sale in time for Mother’s Day, 2005. In addition to professional
artists, youth in the West Hartford school system will be contributing to our efforts by creating
works of art. Creation and sale of note cards is also planned to raise funds for the charity.
